IIn September, it was revealed that a Lancashire roofing contractor was mandated to financially reimburse over £43,000, with homeowners being left ‘Significantly out of pocket,’ relating to some substandard roofing.
33-year-old Aiden John Shuttleworth, operating as ‘Astar Property Maintenance,’ attended Preston Crown Court, following on from accepting responsibility for an array of violations concerning the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
Shuttleworth then received an imprisonment term of nearly a year, along with community paybacks, a ‘Criminal Behaviour Order,’ and ‘Rehabilitation.’
Councillor Joshua Roberts, a member of Lancashire County Council stated the following: “This case highlights the significant harm rogue traders can cause, leaving homeowners out of pocket for poor-quality, shoddy workmanship or unnecessary work that simply was not needed, and causing considerable stress and anxiety.”
“We encourage residents to be cautious when arranging home improvement work, obtain multiple quotations and check traders’ credentials carefully before making any payment.”
“Our officers will continue to take robust action against those who exploit consumers and undermine legitimate businesses.”
