In March, it was announced that some construction works taking place at Leicester Cathedral were completed. A majority of the cathedral was under construction, to build their state-of-the-art Heritage and Learning centre.

The place of worship has been worked on for the past 3 years, and the facility will provide a display room, and an educational setting for those in need. The construction takes up a segment of the ‘Leicester Cathedral Revealed,’ refurbishment, amounting to £17 million.

David Papworth, the Development and Engagement Manager of Leicester Cathedral argued that the construction would be a major attraction. Mr Papworth stated the following to LeicestershireLive: “It’s going to pull more people from Leicester to come see it.” The construction consists of stone cladding, forming a creation that reflects the style of the build.

Andrew Radford, the Marketing and Branding Officer at Leicester Cathedral, made the following very clear to LeicestershireLive: “The architects are the ones we have been working with for years, as they respect the heritage space.” “It’s to have a space to tell our story and the story of Leicester.” “The point is that even after 100 years it will still look good.”

The construction was finished in build up to ‘Light up Leicester,’ an event that was between 12th and 15th of March. With an array of illuminations, the place of worship hopes to promote Leicester, as a whole.

Speaking to LeicestershireLive, Richard Norman, the Chief Operating Officer of Leicester Cathedral stated the following: “We can’t wait to welcome the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and beyond back to the fully re-opened Cathedral site.”
