In May, Dorset Council received a report of some bags of roof materials that were discarded throughout the area.
The supplies were stored in some rubbish bags, coloured ‘Red,’ causing a disruption for members of the public who walk in the area.
Some bags were initially spotted at ‘Gales Hill, Cosmore,’ towards the end of March, followed by another collection bags at ‘Zig Zag Hill,’ close to Shaftesbury.
Dorset Council revealed that they are working incredibly hard to find the culprits, encouraging those to come forward if they have noticed any roofers in the county, especially if they are carrying roof supplies, between March and May.
Additionally, Dorset Council are eager to view video recordings, including type of transport, vehicle registrations, business information, and much more.
Councillor Jon Andrews stated the following: “Fly‑tipping is selfish, illegal and completely unacceptable.” “It damages Dorset’s beautiful countryside, creates real problems for people who use and care for our bridleways and costs taxpayers thousands of pounds in clear-up fees.”
“If you’ve seen roofing work taking place nearby, noticed vehicles dumping waste, or have any information that could help our investigation, please get in touch.” “It will be treated in strict confidence but could make a real difference.”
“We are committed to protecting the county’s natural environment and will take enforcement action against those responsible for fly tipping.”
Those who are aware of related events have been encouraged to get in touch with Dorset Council, by calling 01305 221 000, with calls remaining confidential.
Companies, along with tradespeople who attend to properties, will have to discard their unused materials safely, by working alongside someone who has a ‘Waste Carrier License,’ or transporting the materials to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).
Companies who carry commercial refuse are unable to use local dumps.
If refuse is found to be discarded in this manner, not only the tradesperson, but the property owner could potentially face a financial penalty.
