In March, a campaign was introduced, to try and ‘Rebuild the lives,’ of residents affected by a deceitful tradesperson.

The Gofundme campaign was created, to reimburse a total of 16 Wirral households, who fell short of thousands, after falling victim to a deceitful roofing contractor, 53-year-old Richard Williams. Williams was eventually sent to prison.

Households were ‘Devastated,’ as Williams had misled them into an array of unsatisfactory and scandalous works.

For many, funds were settled, when labour hadn’t even got underway. Altogether, the households lost a total of £75,840.

Williams was charged by Cheshire West and Cheshire Council regarding for committing 16 acts of Section 2 Fraud by false representation (Fraud Act 2006).’

The campaign was created by Susie Laughland, known to one of the households, aims to gather the total amount, and reimburse the victims “Still facing the financial cost and emotional stress of the damage he left behind.”

The campaign was posted live on Friday 6th March, and as of 10th March, collected an array of contributions, in the £18,000 milestone.

Williams received a prison term of up to 2 years and 8 months, due to not attending to works from 2019 to 2023.

Those affected revealed that the ‘Cowboy,’ roofer ‘Completely destroyed,’ the faith they had in traders, as he’d left their properties in an unsatisfactory condition, even though he demanded for the money to be paid.

Williams was unable to attend to properties throughout Flintshire, Merseyside and Cheshire, following on from receiving payment.

The labour was substandard, had to be cleared away & attended to by alternative tradespeople.

The allegations concern the 16 homeowners who were deceived, some of which turned up to Chester Crown Court for the trial.

Mrs Laughland stated the following: “I am fundraising on behalf of my close friend who lost over £20,000 to a rogue roofer.”

“She wasn’t the only victim.” “16 families together lost a total of £75,840 to the same cowboy contractor, who is now serving 32 months in prison for fraud.”

“The court awarded no compensation so we’re raising funds to support all 16 families as they try to rebuild their lives after this devastating fraud.”

“Between 2019 and 2023, 16 innocent people placed their trust and their hard-earned money into the hands of a local roofer who promised quality work and honest service.” “Instead, he carried out 16 counts of fraud, taking £75,840 in total from victims who believed they were investing in their homes and futures.”
